Housing Corporations
The many housing corporations in Amsterdam have clustered into three big Clusters: Woonwerk, Archipel and Spectrum. With these clusters, you'll have to be a member for about three or four years before you make a chance to get a place. The person with the longest subscription time goes first, and a "Doorstromer" goes prior to a "Starter." The Clusters have different definitions about being a "Doorstromer." Archipel defines a "Doorstromer" as someone who has a place in Amsterdam on his or her name. The apartment must be legal, and empty when the person leaves. Woonwerk defines a "Doorstromer" as someone who has a place with Woonwerk and wants to move. So, you can become a "Doorstromer" at Archipel with a contract from Woonwerk, but you can only become a "Starter" with Woonwerk if you already have a contract with Archipel. If you got an "urgentiebewijs" in the time you could still get them, then you can change the date from your "urgentiebewijs" into a "Doorstromer"-status with any housing cluster.
The stupid thing to do is not to become a member of one of these clusters. Before you know it, some years will have passed and you would have had an apartment if only ...Go to one of the clusters
